The next Ontario Trillium Benefit payment is scheduled for Nov. 10, 2026, according to the Canada Revenue Agency’s benefit payment dates page, with a further payment listed for Dec. 10.
The benefit combines three Ontario credits into one payment: the Ontario energy and property tax credit, the Northern Ontario energy credit and the Ontario sales tax credit. The CRA said on its Ontario programs page that the amount for the 2026-27 benefit year is based on your 2025 income tax and benefit return.
Most recipients are paid monthly. The CRA said the annual entitlement is divided by 12 and paid on the 10th of each month starting in July 2026. When the 10th falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, the payment is issued on the last working day before it.
People who chose to wait for a single payment on their 2025 return and whose annual entitlement is more than $500 are paid in one lump sum on June 10, 2027. Entitlements of $500 or less are paid as one lump sum in the first payment month, usually July.
The Ontario sales tax credit is worth up to $378 per adult and per child a year, the CRA said. For a single person with no children, the credit is reduced by 4 per cent of adjusted net income above $29,047. For a single parent, or someone married or in a common-law relationship, the reduction applies to adjusted family net income above $36,309. You do not apply for this credit. The CRA uses your return to decide eligibility and sends a notice if you qualify.
The energy and property tax credit is different. To qualify, you must have lived in Ontario on Dec. 31, 2025, and paid rent or property tax on your principal residence in 2025. Eligible costs also include long-term care accommodation, home energy costs on a reserve and residence costs at a university, college or private school. The CRA said you should apply if you are eligible for either that credit or the Northern Ontario energy credit, which requires living in Northern Ontario on the same date.
The Ontario child benefit and the Ontario senior homeowners’ property tax grant are separate programs, the CRA said, although they are administered with the trillium benefit. The child benefit is worth up to $146.66 a month per child under 18, with a partial benefit above $26,865 in adjusted family net income. The grant is up to $500 for people 64 or older on Dec. 31, 2025, who own and live in an Ontario principal residence on which property tax was paid.
If your 2025 return was assessed after June 19, 2026, the CRA said your first payment, including earlier months you were owed, is issued within four to eight weeks of the assessment.
The CRA advises waiting 10 working days after a trillium benefit payment date before contacting it about a missing payment.
