Beijing reported 27 new confirmed cases, two suspected cases and three new asymptomatic cases for COVID-19 on Monday, said an official at a press conference on Tuesday.
Xu Hejian, director of the Information Office of Beijing Municipality, said Beijing is in a severe situation with epidemic prevention and control.
“From 0:00 Monday to 0:00 Tuesday, Beijing reported 27 new confirmed domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, two suspected cases, and three new asymptomatic cases. By the end of Monday, Beijing had reported 526 confirmed domestic cases, including 411 who had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, 106 remained hospitalized, nine deaths and 10 asymptomatic remain under medical observation. Since the epidemic occurred at Xinfadi wholesale market on June 11, there have been 106 new confirmed domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases. The epidemic prevention and control of Beijing is in a severe situation,” said Xu.
At the same press conference, Chen Yankai, deputy head of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Market Regulation, briefed about the progress of disinfection work on all farm produce markets and catering service providers in the capital.
“As of 06:00 Tuesday, Beijing had disinfected 276 farm produce markets, closed 11 underground and semi-underground farm produce markets and disinfected 33,173 catering service providers. All the districts carry out disinfection while maintaining the food supply. The farm produce markets and restaurants and canteens kept normal business. In the next phase, all districts will redouble their efforts [on disinfection work]. It is predicted the disinfection on all restaurants and canteens will be finished by the end of Tuesday,” Chen.
