Charlottetown tap water wins top Atlantic taste honours

Charlottetown’s municipal water has been named the best-tasting tap water in Atlantic Canada for the third time, the City of Charlottetown said.

The city’s Water and Sewer Utility won both the Best of the Best Tap Water Taste Test and the inaugural People’s Choice Taste Test at the Atlantic Canada Water and Wastewater Association’s annual conference, held Oct. 4 to 6 in Moncton, N.B., the city said in a release dated Oct. 20.

Ten entries were judged by a panel of water professionals on appearance, odour, taste and overall impression. The People’s Choice award, new this year, let conference attendees sample the water and vote. Charlottetown received the most votes and became the first community to win it.

“These awards are a reflection of the care, dedication and expertise our staff bring to their work every day,” Josh McInnis, the utility’s manager, said. “We take great pride in providing Charlottetown residents with high-quality drinking water.”

As the regional winner, Charlottetown will again compete for the Best of the Best title at the American Water Works Association’s annual conference in San Diego next June. In 2024 the city won that contest and was named best-tasting tap water in North America.

The win comes as the city deals with a steady run of infrastructure work. We reported on the reopening of the Kensington Road and Exhibition Drive intersection, and the city’s news page lists further road and sidewalk closures on Queen and Euston streets.
