OTTAWA – Nick Cousins broke a 2-2 tie with 2:18 left in the third period, and the Ottawa Senators beat the Utah Mammoth 4-2 on Saturday night.
Cousins redirected a shot from defenceman Thomas Chabot for the winner. Shane Pinto sealed it with an empty-net goal with 16 seconds left.
Fabian Zetterlund scored on the power play in the first period and Michael Amadio scored in the third for Ottawa. Samuel Ersson made 30 saves for his third win of the season, and the Senators improved to 11-6-1.
Clayton Keller tied it 1-1 in the first period after a Tim Stutzle giveaway. Amadio put Ottawa ahead again 6:29 into the third, but Barrett Hayton tipped in a Keller shot about three minutes later to level the game at 2-2.
Karel Vejmelka stopped 17 shots for Utah, which fell to 10-7-1.
The win came days after Amadio scored late in a 2-1 Senators win over the Buffalo Sabres. Utah also lost to a Canadian club earlier in the week, a 5-4 overtime defeat to the Canadiens.
