
In the next day or so, Ford also said the government will be announcing measures targeting price gouging that will entail “very, very strict fines and very large fines.”
“I just won’t tolerate it — anyone who wants to gouge the public in these times, we’re going to come down hard,” Ford said.
Ford also applauded the federal government’s move to up its wage subsidy for small- and medium-sized businesses to 75 per cent from 10 per cent.
“The wage subsidy will help hundreds of thousands of workers get through this crisis,” Ford said. “When this storm passes, we’ll get back on our feet.
The premier also asked Ontario residents who have a cottage to resist the temptation to visit, reiterating a message from cottage-country mayors and residents who said their retail stores and hospitals don’t have the capacity to support an influx of part-time residents.
