What does the Dyson Airwrap do differently?
Most hot tools style hair by pressing it against a heated surface. The Airwrap relies on what Dyson calls the Coanda effect: fast-moving air that pulls hair toward a barrel and wraps it around on its own, then sets the curl with heat and a cold shot. Dyson says the barrels can switch airflow direction when you rotate the cool tip, so one barrel creates curls going both ways.
The same body also works as a dryer. The Coanda smoothing dryer attachment rough-dries damp hair and, according to Dyson, helps hide flyaways for a smoother finish. The smoothing brushes use airflow to align hair for straighter styles, and the round volumizing brush is meant for bouncy blowouts. Dyson tells users to start with damp hair and get it about 80 per cent dry before styling.
Dyson’s main pitch is heat control. The company says it monitors air temperature more than 40 times a second to prevent extreme heat damage, which is why many buyers choose it over curling irons and flat irons.
Is the Dyson Airwrap worth it?
For the right person, yes. If you dry and style your hair most days, the Airwrap replaces a dryer, a round brush and a curling iron, and owners on Amazon.ca consistently praise how fast it dries hair and how easy the attachments are to swap. Three out of four ratings on the listing are five stars.
The case is weaker on value. At $799.99, it costs about $400 more than its closest rival and more than 13 times the price of a popular hot air brush. Amazon’s review summary lists value for money and reliability as the two most common concerns, and 15 per cent of ratings are one star. The verdict: worth it for people with medium or long hair who style often and want gentler heat. Harder to justify if your hair is short or if you mostly just blow-dry.

What do owners say?
The rating breakdown on Amazon.ca is split: 73 per cent of ratings are five stars and 15 per cent are one star, with few in between. Amazon’s summary of the reviews says buyers like the ease of use and drying speed, while value for money, reliability, compatibility with their hair type, durability and blowout results draw mixed comments.
In reviews from Canada, one owner with long, thin, dyed hair said the Airwrap dried and styled her hair in less than 20 minutes and that she stopped using a brush dryer that had damaged her ends. Another said her hair used to frizz no matter how carefully she blow-dried, and that the Airwrap made it easy to get it smooth with one hand. A buyer who had used one for about three years in the United Kingdom before moving to Canada said she bought another on arrival, found it quieter than a rival brand and advised a 10-second cold shot after each curl plus a heat protectant spray. She also said that if it cuts out, the filter needs cleaning.
The complaints are just as consistent. The most helpful critical review from Canada described a unit that stopped working about five months after purchase and a slow, frustrating repair process with Dyson. One reviewer said the curls her fiancée made lasted only 15 to 20 minutes, even with hairspray, so she went back to a regular curling iron. A reviewer with curly hair said the Airwrap dried well but was not effective for styling curls. Another felt it seemed plasticky for the price. A five-star reviewer with 4C hair said it works well for her but suggested a regular brush and dryer may be better for short hair.
Dyson Airwrap vs Shark FlexStyle
The best-known rival on Amazon.ca is the Shark FlexStyle 4-in-1 Dryer and Styler (HD435C), sold by Amazon.ca for $399.99 as of Oct. 22, 2026, with a 4.2 out of 5 star rating from 115 ratings and more than 1,000 bought in the past month. Shark says the dryer rotates to turn into a styling wand, and the kit includes auto-wrap curlers, a diffuser, an oval brush and a concentrator. It lists four heat settings, three airflow settings and a cool shot, and Shark says it measures temperature 1,000 times a second.
The two share the same idea: air-wrap curling and drying in one tool. The Shark costs half as much, includes a diffuser for curly hair in the box and, Shark says, weighs just over 1.5 pounds. The Dyson offers two barrel sizes, three different brushes and the Coanda smoothing dryer, and it has a much longer track record and more ratings on Amazon.ca. Shoppers who want the air-styling experience on a tighter budget should look closely at the Shark.

Which Dyson Airwrap should you buy?
Amazon.ca lists several versions. The Airwrap i.d., which Dyson pairs with an app, also sold for $799.99 on Oct. 22 in Straight and Wavy and Curly and Coily versions. The Airwrap Co-anda2x in Curly and Coily was $899.99, and a Complete Long bundle with a travel bag and diffuser was $849.99. If you have curly or coily hair, look at the Curly and Coily versions, which add attachments for those hair types, rather than the Straight and Wavy model covered here.
Who should skip the Dyson Airwrap?
Skip it if your hair is short, where owners said a regular dryer and brush does the job. Skip it if you need curls to hold all day without much product, since several reviewers found air-set curls dropped quickly. And think twice if you are uneasy about after-sales service, because reliability and repair experiences are the biggest themes among the one-star reviews.
Is there a cheaper alternative?
The Revlon One-Step Volumizer (RVDR5222F) sold for $58.47 on Amazon.ca on Oct. 22, 2026, sold by Amazon.ca. It shows a 4.4 out of 5 star rating from 66,018 ratings and more than 3,000 bought in the past month. It is a hot air brush rather than a multi-styler, with a 2.8-inch oval barrel, ceramic coating, ionic technology to reduce frizz, low, high and cool settings and a swivel cord. It will not curl hair like the Airwrap, but for smooth, volumized blowouts it costs a fraction of the price.

When is the best time to buy a Dyson Airwrap in Canada?
Premium hair tools are commonly discounted during Black Friday week, Boxing Day and Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, and one Canadian reviewer said she bought hers on Black Friday. No discount is guaranteed, and Amazon.ca was not showing a sale price on this Airwrap on Oct. 22. Black Friday falls on Nov. 27 this year; our guide to Black Friday 2026 in Canada covers the dates and your rights as a buyer.
The Airwrap is also one of the most requested holiday gifts. For more ideas, see our gift ideas for mom in Canada for 2026, and if you are weighing other Dyson products, read our look at whether the Dyson V15 Detect is worth it in Canada.
