Fog advisory for Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park

Environment Canada says near-zero visibility in fog continues over parts of Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park, and the fog advisory remains in effect until about 10 a.m. MT on Sunday.

The weather agency said travel will likely be hazardous in some locations and that visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times. It said the fog should dissipate this morning.

A similar advisory continues for the City of Red Deer and for Red Deer County near Elnora, Lousana and Delburne, where it is set to end around 9 a.m. MT. Environment Canada is also carrying fog advisories for many counties east and south of Edmonton, including parts of Camrose, Beaver, Wetaskiwin and Athabasca counties.

Drivers should be prepared for areas of near-zero visibility and allow extra time to reach their destination, Environment Canada said. Sunday is also the first morning after Alberta moved its clocks back an hour, so many commuters and early-morning travellers will be on the roads in the dark and the fog.

Fog advisories are issued when widespread poor visibility in fog is expected, the agency said. Residents can report severe weather to Environment Canada at [email protected] or on social media using #ABStorm.

Edmonton’s forecast shows a few clouds tonight with a low of minus 4 and a wind chill of minus 3 this evening and minus 8 overnight. Monday is expected to be sunny with a high of 9 and a morning wind chill of minus 8, according to Environment Canada’s Edmonton forecast.

The fog follows a week of wintry weather in the region. Canada News Media reported fog and a wind chill of minus 13 in Edmonton on Friday, and Edmonton’s first big snowfall of the season earlier in the week. Our Weekend Ready guide covers the time change and winter tires. Conditions are also covered in our weather and emergencies section.
