
The province’s chief public health officer has announced four new positive cases of COVID-19 in Prince Edward Island.
Two of the cases are related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada, while the other two are close contacts. The cases are
- A man in his 20s who travelled from outside Atlantic Canada and tested positive after routine testing;
- A man in his 30s who travelled from outside Atlantic Canada and tested postive after initially testing negative;
- A woman in her 30s, a close contact of the man in his 30s;
- A man under the age of 19, a close contact of the man in his 30s;
All the new cases are in self-isolation and are being followed up by public health.
A statement from the province late Friday afternoon said the individual under 19 was involved in minor sports activities. This individual’s close contacts are being followed up with by public health and will not be participating in sport activities.
“If any public exposure notifications are required after a risk assessment, they will be released as soon as possible,” said the release.
On Friday, Stretch Fitness in Summerside reported that a patron had tested positive for COVID-19. On its Facebook page, the fitness facility stated that the individual had attended a fitness class on Friday between 8:50 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.The statement said the gym would be closed for 48 hours.
UPDATE: The CPHO issued a public alert confirming a potential Stretch Fitness exposure and recommended anyone there during the listed hours be tested three times – today or tomorrow, on March 23, and on March 28. Those who have not been identified as close contacts do not need to self-isolate.
P.E.I. currently has eight active cases of COVID-19 and has had 148 positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
