ANAHEIM, Calif. – Cutter Gauthier scored three times, including two power-play goals 36 seconds apart early in the third period, as the Anaheim Ducks erased a three-goal deficit to beat the Ottawa Senators 6-3 on Sunday night.
Ottawa led 3-0 after the first period on goals from Philip Tomasino, Claude Giroux and Michael Amadio, but Anaheim scored six straight, the last four with the man advantage, at Honda Center.
Tomasino tipped a Thomas Chabot shot past Ducks goalie Laurent Brossoit at 6:00 of the first. Giroux made it 2-0 at 7:02 off a rush, and Amadio scored on a breakaway at 17:37.
Gauthier got Anaheim on the board 1:35 into the second period, and Judd Caulfield scored twice in the period, the second a power-play tip of a Tristan Luneau point shot with 42 seconds left, to tie it 3-3.
Gauthier then scored at 1:50 of the third on a 5-on-3 one-timer and again at 2:26 on a 5-on-4, for his second career hat trick. McQueen added a power-play snap shot at 15:19.
Brossoit made 19 saves in his first start for the Ducks. He was recalled from the AHL’s San Diego Gulls on Saturday and played his second NHL game since April 2024. Jonas Johansson stopped 27 shots for Ottawa. Leo Carlsson had three assists for Anaheim.
“Trying to keep it simple, a lot of volume shooting,” Gauthier said of his approach.
“They were a better team in the second,” Giroux said.
Ottawa (9-6-1) had come off a 5-1 win at San Jose on Saturday. The Senators visit the Buffalo Sabres next. Anaheim improved to 6-7-1 after losing seven of its previous eight games and faces a three-game road trip.
Ottawa also lost 4-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights earlier this season.
