Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for prolonged, heavy rainfall in southwestern Nova Scotia, with 40 to 80 millimetres possible from Friday afternoon until Sunday night.
The statement covers Annapolis, Digby, Kings and Yarmouth counties. A slow-moving weather system is expected to bring a period of prolonged rain that may become heavy at times, the weather office said. Thundershowers may develop over some areas and produce locally heavier rainfall.
Environment Canada said there is some uncertainty about where the highest amounts will fall, but significant totals are possible in some locations. A statement is not a formal warning, and the agency could upgrade it if forecasts firm up.
The weather office asks residents to keep monitoring alerts and forecasts. Reports of severe weather can be sent to [email protected] or posted with #NSStorm. Current alerts are posted on the Environment Canada website.
The same week, Atlantic Canada has already seen strong coastal wind; see our earlier report on gusts near St. John’s.
