Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for northern British Columbia’s Muncho Lake Park and Stone Mountain Park region, with 15 to 25 centimetres of snow expected along Highway 97 from Tuesday morning to near noon Wednesday.
The warning covers Highway 97 from Steamboat Hill to Muncho Lake, as well as the Tetsa River and Toad River areas. The agency said the heaviest snow is expected around Toad River and Tetsa River, and that driving conditions will be challenging.
An upper disturbance moving in from the Yukon is producing conditions favourable for heavy snowfall, Environment Canada said. The snow is expected to ease around midday Wednesday as the system moves into southern B.C.
Travellers on the highway were advised to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating conditions and to allow extra time. The warning was issued Monday afternoon and is rated moderate. Reports of severe weather can be sent to [email protected] or shared with #BCStorm.
Farther north, Whitehorse is forecast to get periods of snow beginning early Monday evening, with 2 to 4 cm expected and a low of minus 4. The snow should end Tuesday morning, followed by flurries and northwest winds of 30 km/h gusting to 50. Tuesday’s high is zero. No warning is in effect for Whitehorse.
Winter weather is also arriving on the Prairies, where we reported snow in the forecast for Calgary and Edmonton and snow, rain and freezing rain for Regina and Saskatoon. Current road conditions are posted on DriveBC, and official alerts are on the Environment Canada site.
