
Geoff MacLellan is leaving politics.
The 42-year-old Liberal MLA for Glace Bay has more than a decade of legislative experience and serves as the government House leader.
First elected in June 2010 and re-elected in 2013 and 2017, MacLellan has served in several cabinet positions.
Upon his 2017 election, MacLellan was tabbed to lead the energy and trade ministries and Service Nova Scotia.
In the first term in office for the Stephen McNeil-led Liberals, MacLellan served as minister of transportation and infrastructure renewal.
A business graduate of Cape Breton University, MacLellan went on to earn a master’s degree in business at Dalhousie University.
Before running for election, MacLellan was the executive assistant to MP Rodger Cuzner, worked in business development at the Maritime Environmental Training Institute and represented Cape Breton University as a program manager in Egypt.
MacLellan joins a list of Liberals who will not reoffer in the next election, including the premier, Karen Casey, Leo Glavine and Margaret Miller.
