No foul play suspected after male’s body found
There is no indication of foul play after a male’s body was found in the city’s north end Wednesday evening.
Police and paramedics were called to an outdoor location in the area of Woodlawn Road West and Nicklin Road approximately 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Residents out for a walk discovered the body of a male believed to be in his 70s in a brush area.
The body was sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for a post-mortem, but there is no indication of foul play or danger to the public.
Swinging hatchet leads to weapons charge
A Guelph male faces weapons charges after someone was seen swinging a hatchet and yelling at people outside a south-end business Thursday.
Approximately 3:45 p.m., Guelph Police Service officers were called to a business in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Stone Road. A caller advised a male was outside the business swinging a hatchet and aggressively yelling at people coming and going.
The male left on a bicycle before police arrived, but he was located in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Forest Street and arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed a hatchet in the male’s backpack and a folding knife in his pocket.
A 38-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of breaching probation. He will appear in a Guelph court December 10, 2021.
Male arrested for theft, escape custody
A Cambridge male who ran away from store security after he was arrested for shoplifting faces several charges.
In January, 2020, the male was arrested after he was observed leaving a Woodlawn Road West business with more than $550 in stolen property. He was stopped by a loss prevention officer and returned to the store, but a short time later fled and was apprehended again following a foot chase and brief struggle.
The male was arrested by Guelph Police Service officers for theft and escaping custody and released with a future court date, however he subsequently failed to appear in court on the charges.
A 36-year-old Cambridge male was arrested Thursday on unrelated matters by Waterloo Regional Police and returned to Guelph, where he was additionally charged with failing to appear in court. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
Thefts caught on video, female arrested
A Guelph female who was recognized from video of two thefts last month was arrested Thursday.
On July 23, the female attended a business on Scottsdale Drive near Stone Road West and stole more than $330 worth of product. Minutes later she attended a business near the intersection of Wellington Street West and Gordon Street and stole another $320 worth of product.
Both thefts were captured on video and officers recognized the female from previous interactions. She was located Thursday evening in the area of Willow Road and Alma Street North and arrested. A 45-year-old Guelph female is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000. She will appear in a Guelph court December 7, 2021.
