Mets sign manager Andy Green to three-year deal, removing interim label

Andy Green’s stint leading the New York Mets dugout isn’t done just yet.

The manager signed a three-year contract to stay in the role, the team announced Tuesday.

Green, 49, took over from the fired Carlos Mendoza in late June, and has since guided the Mets to a 37-38 record over 75 games at the helm.

He becomes the second manager to have the interim tag removed Tuesday after the Boston Red Sox locked in Chad Tracy earlier in the day.

However, unlike Tracy, Green was unable to lead a mid-season turnaround big enough to launch his club into the post-season. The Mets enter action Tuesday last in the NL East at 71-85 despite a busy off-season that included poaching infielder Bo Bichette from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mets gig marks Green’s second as full-time manager. He previously led the San Diego Padres from 2016-2019, posting a 274-366 record and failing to reach the playoffs.
