The city’s long-term care homes have reported positive cases of COVID-19 among a handful of staff, but as of early Thursday morning, there were no reports of residents testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
It became clear Wednesday night that city council members, including much of the political leadership, didn’t know about the window ban until they read about it in this newspaper. Blindsided councillors were bombarded by emails from concerned residents and many were trying to get in touch with the mayor and health board chair to understand what was happening.
Some councillors were comparing the level of public response to the one involving the supremely controversial Château Laurier addition. The email volume has been of Château-esque proportions, Coun. Tim Tierney said.
“The emails I have received are not form letters and personal in nature and look forward to finding out what the real answer is on this,” Tierney said.
Council was waiting for a fulsome explanation from management Thursday.
