A colourful patchwork of vibrant and diverse art work is now on display in some downtown back alleys in Regina.
In partnership with the City of Regina, Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID) is inviting people to tour (virtually or in-person) the newest additions to its Urban Canvas Downtown Regina art program. According to a news release, the art was originally part of the city’s response to deter unwanted vandalism, but the program has grown to add value and vitality to the neighbourhood in the heart of the city.
RDBID has installed 13 artworks by artists from Saskatchewan and beyond on alley doors in Regina’s downtown. Artwork was selected by a panel of adjudicators representing the local arts community and City of Regina.
This year’s program focused on doors in and around the alley between the 1900-blocks of Scarth and Hamilton Streets, including: Copper Kettle, O’Hanlon’s Pub, Good Spirit Kombucha, Siam Thai Restaurant, The Rice Guy Restaurant, Lucky Panther Tattoo, CK Pizza, Victoria’s Tavern, and as a bonus Comicreaders (at 2125 11th Ave.)
