Real Estate Board President Donna Mathewson says a record 121 homes worth $37 million sold in December — a 78 per cent increase over the same month last year.

“We almost doubled our sales for the month of December, particularly from 2018,” said Mathewson. “2018, I looked back last year, weather was a little colder, we did have snow in December, we didn’t have any of that. We had a green Christmas. People were still out looking. When it’s snowing and blowing outside they’re hunkering down in the homes that they do have and waiting for better weather.”

The total number of properties that sold in 2019 was up just one per cent at 1,843.

Bungalows are still the most popular style of home, with two-storey homes coming in second.

The average sale price for the year was $336,000.
