Regina’s downtown holiday kickoff, Light the Lights Downtown, takes place Nov. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m., the City of Regina announced Nov. 3.
The city and the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District are presenting a single, downtown-wide event that combines smaller celebrations each group previously held on its own. Event hubs at City Hall, Cornwall Centre, the Regina Public Library and the Globe Theatre will offer activities, entertainment and holiday experiences.
There will be two lighting ceremonies. The downtown lighting ceremony is at Victoria Park at 6 p.m., followed by the City Hall lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
Family activities include visits with Santa Claus and the Grinch, performances by local entertainers, a colouring contest and a holiday market with vendors from the Regina Farmers’ Market. The horse-and-wagon ride will also return.
“This event will brighten our downtown, create a memorable evening for families and showcase Regina as a winter city,” Mayor Chad Bachynski said in the release.
Judith Veresuk, executive director of the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District, said lighting up downtown on the same evening is a first for the two organizations. “Bringing these festivities together into a single night creates an even bigger impact for our city core,” she said.

The announcement follows a busy fall downtown, where the city recently finished the 11th Avenue revitalization project. Residents planning ahead for winter can also check our guide to winter parking bans and fines by city.
