The numbers showed an unexpected pattern, with almost all of those in intensive care being in their 50s and 60s and only one individual in their 70s, said Dr. Vera Etches, Ottawa’s medical officer of health.
“These are not your grandparents. They are you parents and co-workers.”
Ottawa has also recorded its first case in a retirement residence, the Promenade in Orléans. Both that individual and their spouse were in hospital. Outbreak measures have been taken in the residence. Staff were wearing protective equipment and staff and patients were being carefully monitored, Etches said.
The province and Ottawa Public Health keep their own figures on confirmed cases. According to Ottawa Public Health data, there were 75 confirmed cases in Ottawa as of Friday.
