St. John’s: Waterford Bridge Road closed days for two weeks

Waterford Bridge Road in St. John’s is closed between Road De Luxe and Water Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, starting Nov. 2, the City of St. John’s said.

The city said the closure is for storm sewer maintenance and is expected to last about two weeks. Traffic will be detoured via Topsail Road. Emergency vehicles and local traffic will keep access, flag persons will direct traffic and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Families and buses dropping off and picking up students at St. Mary’s Elementary must use the Road De Luxe side of the school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the city said.

Separately, the city said one northbound lane of Columbus Drive, toward the Village Mall, is reduced between Bay Bulls Road and Topsail Road starting Nov. 2. Crews are replacing guide rails, and the work is scheduled to take about two weeks, subject to change. The city’s advisory lists the reduction as running from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers should expect delays, and alternate pedestrian routes will be provided.

The city is also running its annual street rehabilitation program. Contractors may be working on a list of streets from Nov. 2 to 7, which could include excavation, concrete work, paving and culvert installation, and drivers may see delays. The full street list is on the city’s website.

The advisories come as council continues to deal with growth on the city’s edges. It approved 147 new homes in two split votes, and it has set a Nov. 4 hearing on the Cowan Heights plan. Environment Canada also warned of strong coastal gusts near St. John’s earlier this week.
