A survivor of the 2018 Santa Fe High School shooting performed for American Idol Judges only to ignite an emotional response from Kay Perry that should have been heard from many celebrities and noted people long ago. “America has failed us” was proclaimed by the singer Perry. Guns and more guns invade every aspect of American life, falling into the hands of criminals, cops, and hunters alike. I am sure the conservative right led by the NRA and Republican Party will be attacking Katy Perry as overly emotional and her response as impulsive.
All the black celebrities out there, those multi-millionaire entertainers with bodyguards who live in gated communities…where the hell are you? Why do we not hear your protestations and cries of anguish as we did with Katy Perry? The assault of weaponry in America has not threatened you? Black Lives Matter to you so long as you can make a safe appearance and videotaped promotion. Guns kill, that’s what they were designed to do. Hey Springsteen you can proclaim “War what good is it, absolutely nothing” but your silent about weapons that kill hundreds of your fellow citizens each day? Black Rights, equality, and Human/Civil Rights mean nothing as long as the power of the gun manipulates and shapes our society. You can be free, but equality is another thing. Are we equal in front of a weapon? The wealthy are protected, but the poor and average joe is not. They have to fear the gun, whether it be held by crooks, cops, or nuts. Every day is like a turkey shoot.
You have to admire the young man and Kathy Perry. They showed their emotional response to evil and also their self-control. Most lunatics that use weapons do not. They look at their targets as a means to an end, whether that be money or fame. I offer my applause and best wishes to Katy and all those who have suffered at the hand of a gun-wielding lunatic. May almighty God crush the NRA and all profiteering weapon makers, and may God bless those of our elected politicians who care more for us and less for the bribes the weapon manufacturers offer them annually.
