Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the City of Calgary, with gusts of 90 to 100 km/h expected this afternoon and evening.
The weather office said winds will weaken gradually on Saturday morning. Driving conditions will likely be difficult, and damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Residents are urged to secure loose objects.
The same warning covers much of southern Alberta along the foothills and the Rockies, including Okotoks, High River, Cochrane, Airdrie, Olds, Canmore, Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass and Cardston County. A separate warning is in effect farther north around Hinton and Grande Cache.
The Calgary warning is part of the same storm system that is bringing heavy rain and strong wind to the B.C. coast. We reported earlier on wind gusts forecast for the B.C. Interior and on the rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver. Earlier this week, Edmonton dealt with fog and a wind chill of minus 13.
Environment Canada asks Albertans to report severe weather to [email protected], by calling 1-800-239-0484 or on social media with #ABStorm. Current alerts are posted on the Environment Canada website.
