CALGARY, Alberta— The holiday season is a time of celebration, family, friends, and giving. For many, though, the reality will be very different this season. However, for many in our community, the festive season is a stark reminder of the challenges they face every day. The Women’s Centre of Calgary recognizes the urgent need to extend a helping hand to our neighbours navigating difficult circumstances, especially during this time of the year.
Women’s Centre Executive Director Bo Masterson: “The continuing rising food and housing costs have made this holiday season especially hard for families. We are seeing more women with children, as well as seniors, coming through our doors. With the rising cost of living, there is no doubt that those numbers will continue to grow. There’s no time more pressing than now for Calgarians to do what we do best: support each other in these difficult times.”
With many in our community living ‘pay cheque to pay cheque,’ paired with the prominent numbers of residents paying more than 30% of their income on housing, there is little money left at the end of the month, much less the opportunity to save for the holiday season.
This December, as we embark on the season of giving, the Women’s Centre of Calgary is relaunching our Holiday Gift Program to bring comfort and joy to those who need it most. Last year, with your generous support, we were able to give out over 3600 gifts to women and children. This year, we are reaching out again, seeking your support to make a difference in the lives of those who need it.
The Women’s Centre of Calgary invites you to join us in spreading holiday cheer and extending a helping hand to our neighbours in need. By contributing to our Holiday Gift Program, you become a beacon of hope for individuals and families navigating through challenging times.
