The Free the Detained Migrants Collective invites the press to cover a demonstration taking place on Sunday, September 13, starting at noon at the Laval Migrant Detention Centre. Participants will denounce the arrest, detention, and deportation of migrants.
Over the past months, we have witnessed an increase in arrests, detentions, family separations, and deportations. Our neighbour to the south can only admire the efficient functioning of Canada’s detention and deportation machine.
We denounce this violence. The Free the Detained Migrants Collective demands an end to deportations, freedom for the detainees, and status for all.
The detention of migrants is a profoundly unjust practice that shatters lives, separates families, and plunges people into extreme vulnerability, uncertainty, and constant stress. The protest will serve to remind people that behind every file are real people, families, lives, and above all, dreams that deserve respect and protection.
