WATERLOO REGION — Another local man has tested positive for novel coronavirus, bringing the total cases to five in Waterloo Region.
Late Friday night, the Region of Waterloo Public Health confirmed that the man in his 40s from Waterloo Region was on a cruise ship when he developed mild respiratory symptoms on March 1.
The Celebrity Silhouette cruise ship left from Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 23 and went to St. Croix, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Kitts and Nevis.
The cruise ship returned to Fort Lauderdale on March 6 and the man flew from Florida to Toronto on the same day.
Public health is asking passengers on the ship to self-monitor for 14 days as well as people who were on Air Transat Flight 571.
Specifically, public health says passengers in rows 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 are asked to self-isolate for 14 days.
All passengers on the flight should self-monitor for symptoms and call their public health unit if they develop symptoms.
The local man called public health and began isolation on March 10.
He took private transportation to St. Mary’s General Hospital for assessment and testing.
He has mild symptoms and was released from hospital and self-isolating at home.
