The US is closely monitoring the situation regarding potential retaliatory actions by Iran against Israel, according to National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby. While it is unclear exactly when or if such an attack may happen, the US has intelligence indicating that an assault could occur with little or no warning. Kirby emphasized the uncertainty surrounding Iran’s intentions, noting that while preparations have been made, it remains uncertain if or when an attack might be launched, or what form it could take.
Kirby also reiterated that the US hopes the situation will not escalate to that point, following remarks by President Joe Biden earlier in the week that Iran might delay any attack if a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is reached.
