Jets’ Nino Niederreiter to be Swiss flag-bearer at Olympic opening ceremony

Another player from a Canadian NHL team will carry a flag at the opening ceremony for Milano Cortina 2026.

Winnipeg Jets forward Nino Niederreiter has been named a flag-bearer for Switzerland for Friday’s event, the Swiss Olympic team announced Thursday.

Niederreiter will be joined as a Swiss flag-bearer by ski cross star Fanny Smith.

Earlier this week, Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl was named a flag-bearer for Germany.

Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak will be a flag-bearer for Czechia.

Niederreiter, 33, has played 1,024 career NHL games with the Jets, Nashville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders.

Niederreiter also played for Switzerland in the last Olympics including NHL players in 2014 when the team fell short of the quarterfinals.
