Temperatures hovering near freezing mean roads and sidewalks can be wet one hour and icy the next, particularly on bridges, overpasses and in shaded areas. Drivers heading out early Sunday should leave extra time and check road conditions on 511 Alberta before travelling on Highway 2 or the highways west toward Banff.
The snow follows a wet, windy Friday, when the city saw about two centimetres of snow and gusts to 80 km/h. Farther north, heavier snow fell around Fort McMurray, where 20 to 30 centimetres has fallen so far.
