Madrid, Spain — February 18, 2026– World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) continue to take firm steps toward the launch of the new Triathlon World Tour, with the addition of a new internationally renowned private organizer, Challenge Family. This new strategic partner joins the global circuit which, starting in 2027, will usher in a new era in World Triathlon. The partnership with Challenge Family, one of the most established private organizers in international triathlon, reinforces World Triathlon’s commitment to building a new sporting ecosystem—one that requires greater unity, a clearer structure, and a stronger commercial approach.
The new Challenger Series will be structured as the intermediate tier of the competitive system. These competitions will combine middle- and long-distance events and will award points toward the global ranking, offering qualification slots for the elite T100 and T50 World Championship Series events. The goal is to create a clear and merit-based sporting pathway, allowing athletes to progress from the Challenger circuit to the world elite within a coordinated calendar and with greater international visibility.
“We are building a stronger and more cohesive ecosystem for world triathlon. The inclusion of leading private organizers such as Challenge Family demonstrates that the new Triathlon World Tour is an inclusive platform, designed to bring together all key stakeholders under a shared strategic vision,” said Antonio Arimany, President of World Triathlon.
The addition of Challenge Family to the Triathlon World Tour, following PTO’s acquisition of a majority stake in the organization from Y11 Sport & Media, significantly strengthens the expansion of the new global circuit.
This integration will make it possible to aim for a calendar of approximately 80 events worldwide, consolidating both elite high-performance competition and the development of a broader and more structured competitive base.
What is the Triathlon World Tour?
The Triathlon World Tour is the new global triathlon circuit that, starting in 2027, will integrate the current T100 Triathlon World Tour and the World Triathlon Championship Series, which will be rebranded as the T100 and T50 World Championship Series. Below these, two new series called the “Challenger” series will be introduced, providing a qualification pathway to become an official World Champion at both distances, with the current World Triathlon World Cups being rebranded as T50 Challenger. This new ecosystem brings together, for the first time, the main competitions on the international calendar under a single brand, sporting structure, and commercial offering.
The project responds to the need to evolve toward a more commercial and less fragmented model and includes dedicated investment in the development of a renewed audiovisual product, with live broadcasts throughout the year. This will significantly enhance the international visibility of triathlon.
