Henry confirmed that infants were exposed to COVID-19 at St. Paul’s, but called the outbreak “a low-risk scenario for others that are in the NICU,” reminding that infants, even infants in intensive care, “do very well with this virus.”
Contact tracing is underway, and Vancouver Coastal Health is investigating how the virus was introduced into the hospital and working to identity, isolate and monitor the families and health care workers involved.
Providence Health, which operates the hospital, said in a statement Friday new protocols are in place requiring parents visiting their babies in the unit to wear a mask and sign a visitor log.
