Environment Canada’s forecast calls for rain, drizzle and fog across the Prairies tonight, including a risk of freezing rain in Saskatoon, though no weather warnings were in effect for the three major cities late Saturday.
In Saskatoon, the forecast is for mainly cloudy skies with a 60 per cent chance of rain late this evening and overnight, with a risk of freezing rain and fog patches developing overnight. The low is zero. On Sunday, there is a 30 per cent chance of drizzle in the morning, again with a risk of freezing drizzle, before fog dissipates in the afternoon. The high is plus 5.
Regina can expect periods of rain tonight, with fog patches developing overnight and a low of plus 4. Sunday will be cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of rain in the morning and a high of 9. Showers are possible overnight into Monday, with a low of plus 4.
Winnipeg has a 60 per cent chance of drizzle overnight with fog patches and a low of 7. Sunday is forecast to be cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of drizzle in the morning, then a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon, as the wind becomes southeast at 20 km/h. The high is 14. Periods of rain are expected to begin Sunday evening, with a low of 12.
With temperatures hovering near the freezing mark in Saskatoon, wet pavement can turn slick quickly. Drivers are advised to watch for icy patches on bridges and overpasses, and to allow extra time for the morning commute, particularly if the freezing precipitation materializes.
The latest forecasts and alerts are posted on the Environment Canada website.
