Around the world, there has been heated debate over whether pregnant and breastfeeding women should get the COVID-19 vaccine, but an Ontario doctor is strongly encouraging them to.
Dr. Samantha Hill, head of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA), says there is some risk associated with taking the vaccine, but she says it could be far more dangerous if expecting or breastfeeding women catch COVID-19.
Since pregnant and breastfeeding women were not included in clinical trials for the currently-available COVID-19 vaccines, Dr. Hill is worried some people may avoid rolling up their sleeve.
However gynecologists and obstetricians have said these women are at a higher risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID-19.
