Transport Canada has posted a recall of certain Kenworth and Peterbilt medium and heavy-duty trucks because fuel filter hoses can separate from the fuel fitting, causing a fuel leak and a possible loss of power to the wheels.
The notice, Transport Canada Recall 2026518, applies only to trucks equipped with a PACCAR PX9 diesel engine and Cummins fuel hoses. It was first published on the Government of Canada’s recalls and safety alerts site on Oct. 22 and last updated Oct. 30. The notice does not say how many trucks are affected in Canada.
Transport Canada said a fuel leak can create a fire risk, and a loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.
The recall covers the Kenworth T370 from the 2022 model year, and the Kenworth T480, T280 and Peterbilt 548 from 2023. For 2024, it lists the Kenworth T480, T380 and T280, and the Peterbilt 548 and 537. The Kenworth T480 and T380 and the Peterbilt 548 and 537 are also covered in model years 2025, 2026 and 2027.
Cummins will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their trucks to a PACCAR dealership, where the fuel hoses will be replaced. Fleet operators and owner-operators can check whether a specific truck is included by searching Transport Canada’s motor vehicle safety recalls database for recall number 2026518 or by contacting a PACCAR dealer with the truck’s vehicle identification number.
Transport Canada did not report any crashes, fires or injuries linked to the defect in the notice.
