The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled defenceman Rasmus Sandin from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
Sandin, 19, opened the season with the Maple Leafs but has been with the Marlies since mid-October. If he plays four more games in the NHL this season, the first year of his entry-level contract will kick in.
“That was one of my goals this season, to crack the lineup, and I did,” Sandin said in a recent interview on Good Show. “After that, I was just trying to play as good as I can every game and every practice and try and stick around.
“Obviously, you’re getting disappointed when you’re getting sent down. At the same time, you have to see the good things about it and I think I did that in a really good way.”
In 21 games with the Marlies, Sandin has 15 points. He also had 10 points in seven games for Sweden at the recent world juniors.
The Maple Leafs return to action Tuesday at home against the New Jersey Devils.
