Knife pulled during neighbour dispute
A Guelph male faces weapons charges after a knife was pulled Sunday during a neighbour dispute.
Approximately 5:40 p.m. police were called to an address near Pine Ridge Drive and Periwinkle Way. Investigation revealed a male had confronted a neighbour who was pouring something into a sewer drain. The pair became involved in a verbal altercation, during which a butterfly-style knife was brandished.
A male was located by police and arrested. A 19-year-old Guelph male is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a weapon. He will appear in a Guelph court June 2, 2023.
Jail break-in attempt
Two young males face charges following a break-in attempt Sunday at the former Guelph Correctional Centre.
Security staff at the former jail on York Road called police at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday to report two males attempting to gain entry. Officers located a window which had been tampered with, however no entry was gained.
Two males were located with the assistance of a Guelph Police Service canine unit. One was taken into custody following a short foot pursuit while the second was located more than a kilometre away and arrested.
Two Guelph males, aged 18 and 17, are charged with break and enter. They were released with upcoming court dates.
Impaired charge following hit and run
A Guelph female faces several charges following a hit and run collision Saturday.
Approximately 2:30 p.m., police were called to the area of Edinburgh Road South and Honey Crescent. A vehicle had entered the intersection and struck a second vehicle before fleeing the area. No injuries were reported.
The damaged vehicle was located a short distance away. As officers spoke to the owner they noted a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on her breath. She was transported to the police station where testing confirmed she had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.
The female repeatedly identified herself using her sister’s name, however was properly identified via police records.
A 39-year-old Guelph female is charged with impaired driving, failing to remain at a collision, obstructing police and driving while suspended. Her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days. She will appear in a Guelph court May 2, 2023.
Break-in at school, male arrested
A Guelph male faces charges after breaking into a downtown school Saturday.
Just after 3:30 p.m. police were notified of a male who had gained access to the school. As officers arrived they saw the male leaving the school and were able to stop him a short distance away. Property belonging to school staff was recovered.
A 43-year-old Guelph male is charged with break and enter, possessing stolen property and breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court May 30, 2023.
Minor injuries after pedestrian struck
A Guelph female sustained minor injuries after being struck while crossing the street in a mobility scooter Friday afternoon.
Police were called just after 5 p.m. to Wellington Street East and Neeve Street. A female in her 70s was crossing the street when she was struck by a vehicle which was making a left turn. The female was knocked from the scooter and was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The driver, a 33-year-old Guelph female, is charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian.
