Scooter rider suffers life-threatening injuries
The Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating after a male sustained life-threatening head injuries while riding an electric scooter Wednesday night.
Approximately 9:15pm Wednesday, emergency services were called to Victoria Road South near Macalister Boulevard after receiving reports of an unresponsive male at the roadside with head trauma.
A 52-year-old Guelph male was transported from the scene to a Hamilton trauma centre with life-threatening head injuries. He remains in critical condition. The sequence of events that led to the male’s injuries has not been determined, however he was located next to an electric kick scooter.
Police would like to hear from any member of the public who may have seen a male operating an electric kick scooter on Victoria Road South between Arkell Road and Stone Road East shortly after 9 p.m. Police are also seeking members of the public who may have any dashcam video in the area at the time, whether the subject male was observed or not.

Fake name means real charges
A fake name led to real charges for a Guelph male Wednesday morning.
Just after 11 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop downtown for a Highway Traffic Act violation. One of the passengers in the vehicle repeatedly provided a name later determined to be fake. Once his true identity was learned, it was determined he is on a release order with a condition he not communicate with the male who was driving the vehicle.
A 27-year-old Guelph male is charged with obstructing police and failing to comply with a release order. He will appear in a Guelph court September 26, 2023.
More than 70 credit cards recovered
More than 70 stolen credit cards were recovered Wednesday after Guelph Police Service officers responded to a call about a suspicious person.
Approximately 7:30 p.m. police were called for a male loitering in a parking lot on London Road West and looking on porches. A male matching the description was located in the area and arrested on an unrelated matter.
During a search incident to arrest, officers located 73 credit cards from various banks and in different names, as well as a prybar, bolt cutters and other tools.
A 36-year-old Brampton male is charged with possessing stolen credit cards and possessing break and enter tools. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
