Two businesses entered after windows broken
The Guelph Police Service is investigating two break and enters over the weekend in which windows were smashed to gain entry.
On Friday, just before 11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a business in the area of Gordon Street and Lowes Road West. On arrival they located a smashed window.
Video surveillance revealed three males arriving in a red GMC pickup with the licence plate covered. One used a tool to break the window while the other two entered the business and stole the cash register and some product.
All three suspects are described as white males. One was wearing a red and black plaid jacket, black baseball cap and a red bandana over his face. The second was wearing a navy blue hoodie and black balaclava. The third was shorter than the first two and wearing a black jacket with grey sleeves, black baseball cap and a mask.

Approximately 4 a.m. Sunday, police were called for a reported break and enter at a business on Watston Road South near York Road, and again arrived to find a glass door smashed out. A computer was reported to be stolen.

Male arrested on warrant, new charges
A Guelph male faces new charges after he was arrested Friday on an outstanding warrant.
Guelph Police Service officers were investigating an unrelated matter at an address on Speedvale Avenue East when they spoke to a male and determined he was wanted for theft. The male was arrested and during a search officers located a wallet containing identification and credit cards in another male’s name.
The male was further charged with possessing an identity document and failing to comply with a bail condition. He was held for a bail hearing and released with a condition to attend court Monday.
Catalytic converter stolen from dealership
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle for sale at a local dealership.
An employee called police Saturday afternoon to report the theft. Video surveillance showed two suspects arriving at the business, in the area of Elmira Road North and Malcolm Road, approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday. They used a tool to cut off the converter valued at approximately $1,200.
Police services across North America have reported steep increases in the theft of the exhaust components during the past year.

Escape charge added following theft
A Guelph male caught shoplifting from a local business gained another charge after taking off on store staff.
Just after 2 p.m. Friday, a loss prevention officer from a business on Stone Road West called police. He reported he had arrested a male for stealing more than $350 in product, but while waiting for police the suspect fled the store. The employee followed the male and provided updated locations, allowing police to find and arrest him.
A 50-year-old Guelph male is charged with theft under $5,000 and escaping lawful custody. He will appear in a Guelph court May 20, 2022.
