
A scientist who predicted the Covid pandemic has warned that nurseries and primary schools in Scotland need to be better prepared to deal with monkeypox as the total number of cases north of the border rises to almost 70.
Professor Devi Sridhar, chair of public health at the University of Edinburgh, said the case of a day care worker in the US who has potentially exposed children to the virus was another example of why education staff needed to be made fully aware of basic preventative measures.
“Monkeypox is spread by close skin-to-skin contact,” Sridhar posted on social media. “This is just basic prevention. I don’t think anyone wants their child coming home with this disease.”
