What started in controversy has led to an MLB record. The San Diego Padres hit a grand slam in a fourth consecutive game on Thursday, something that has never been done before.
The streak began on Monday, during a 14-4 rout of the Texas Rangers. Padres star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. connected for a grand slam on a 3-0 count, which sparked controversy and revived a conversation about the unwritten rules of baseball.
On Tuesday, Wil Myers‘ first-inning slam set the tone for San Diego’s 6-4 win over the Rangers.
Manny Machado went deep with the bases loaded in the 10th inning on Wednesday, lifting the Padres to a walk-off win.
And finally, on Thursday, Eric Hosmer hit the record-clinching slam to give the Padres a lead in the fifth inning.
All four grand slams came against the Rangers.
