Red Sox face travel delays, pushing back start vs. Mets

As a result, Friday’s game between the Red Sox and New York Mets won’t start on time.

The Red Sox’s charter flight was grounded in Chicago after the team swept the White Sox on Thursday afternoon. Boston didn’t land at New York’s LaGuardia Airport until 4:30 p.m. ET and arrived at Citi Field around 5 p.m.

MLB announced the start time of the game would be pushed back by 35 minutes, to 7:50 p.m.

The Athletic reports that this is the second charter issue the Red Sox have had in recent weeks. On June 25, a delay on their return flight home from Denver resulted in the Red Sox landing in Boston at 5 a.m.

However, that first delay seems to have sparked something in the Red Sox. After that early morning flight, the Red Sox swept the Yankees in a four-game series and have since gone 11-2 to climb back into the American League wild-card race.
