Saskatoon drivers face several full intersection closures and lane restrictions this week, including a one-day closure of 20th Street at Avenue I on Sunday, Nov. 8, the City of Saskatoon said. Updated Nov. 6.
The city said the intersection at 20th Street and Avenue I will close at 8 a.m. on Sunday for valve repairs, a job expected to take one day, weather permitting. Saskatoon Transit may be affected by the detours.
On Friday, Nov. 6, the intersection at Lorne Avenue and Ash Street is closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for catch basin repairs. Preston Avenue South northbound lanes are closed from Circle Drive South to Wilson Crescent from 9 a.m. to noon, and Preston Avenue North southbound lanes are closed from Perimeter Road to East Road from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with two-way traffic kept in the northbound lanes. Highway 16 has a speed reduction at Boychuk Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bridge maintenance.
A new closure starts Friday on Taylor Street East, where westbound lanes are closed from Lansdowne Avenue to Broadway Avenue for storm sewer lining until Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. The city’s daily report also lists a westbound curb lane closure on Taylor Street East at Lorne Avenue until Nov. 10, and a full road closure on Taylor Street from Victoria Avenue to Eastlake Avenue for manhole installation until Nov. 13.
The 25th Street East area has the most overlapping work. The intersection at 3rd Avenue North is closed until Nov. 10 at noon for an unplanned valve installation, with the south part of the 3rd Avenue North intersection between 24th and 25th streets limited to local traffic over the same period. Median lanes between 4th and 5th avenues are closed until Nov. 7 for water main work, and the westbound curb lane from 2nd to 1st Avenue North is closed until Nov. 11 for Saskatoon Light and Power work.
Other restrictions listed by the city include Melville Street closed from Lorne Avenue to Portage Avenue until Nov. 7 at 6 p.m., Victoria Avenue closed at 1st Street East until Nov. 7, and southbound lanes of Avenue P South closed from 19th to 17th streets until Nov. 7. Cumberland Avenue North remains closed from Elliott Street to College Drive until Nov. 20 for Link construction, a project tied to the closure we reported on Cumberland Avenue in October.
Longer-running work includes a closed curb lane on Idylwyld Drive North southbound and a right-turn lane on 51st Street East at the Avenue C overpass until Dec. 15, with the Avenue C exit ramp open. The city’s list covers priority streets with high traffic and high speeds only. Current restrictions are posted at saskatoon.ca/construction, and all dates are subject to weather.
