We all need a buddy at Rideau Hall
This governor general debacle only serves to remind us we need to ditch the monarchy and eliminate the viceregal position entirely. Need a ceremonial person to read the speech from the throne? Create the post of ombudsman for the provinces/territories.
Oops, that title has a gender-specific word in it. How about “ombuddy”? Canadians really need an ombuddy.

Respect the outdoor signage
Some recent winter photos in the Citizen, though beautiful, made me wonder if people read the signs posted by the NCC.
In one photo are skiers and people walking a dog on a leash. But many NCC trails do not allow dogs at all during the winter months. As a cross-country skier, I have come across many walkers with dogs – on or off-leash – on trails clearly marked “No dogs.”
Regarding the photo of the man feeding the ducks, hopefully it’s corn and not bread. Most park areas along the river clearly have signs saying “Do not feed the birds.”
I know that these are difficult times, and being outside and getting exercise is key to our mental and physical health. But please also read and respect the signs.

Who was that masked (snow)man?
I was out for my daily walk and had a chuckle. My neighbours down the street had made a nice big snowman: hat, scarf and all the trimmings. They even put a mask on him.
Today when I walked by, the mask was hanging down one side of his face. I was wondering if an Ottawa bylaw officer would stop and give him a warning about not wearing his mask properly.
