What exactly is going all in at the trade deadline? And how often does it make sense?
Is it what the Panthers did, in trading five draft picks — including two first-rounders — and a prospect for Claude Giroux, Ben Chiarot and Robert Hagg?
Is it the Lightning’s deadline, moving two first-rounders for Brandon Hagel, a young depth player with a little more than 100 games in the league?
And what would all in have looked like for the Maple Leafs, a team faced with having to go through the two Florida juggernauts in the first two rounds when the postseason opens in early May?
Probably something like this…
I don’t know that Marc-Andre Fleury would have even said yes, had this proposal moved further along. He had family reasons to want to stay close to Chicago, and the Wild have an easier path forward in the playoffs, at least until they hit the Avalanche.
