Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries — sent a letter to President Biden lobbying him to back New York City as the host for the 2024 Democratic National Convention over competitors Chicago and Atlanta. The move highlights the jockeying that is taking place among localities to host key events in the upcoming presidential cycle. On Thursday, the Republican National Committee announced it has selected Milwaukee for the site of its first GOP debate in August.
Biden is meeting virtually Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders of the Group of Seven nations to mark the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and talk about the path forward. The meeting caps a week in which Biden made an unannounced visit to Ukraine and delivered a speech in Poland praising the resolve of NATO allies in aiding Ukraine.
