The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Kevin’s Natural Foods brand turkey gravy is being recalled because it contains mustard that is not declared on the label, a risk for anyone with a mustard allergy or sensitivity.
The recall, posted Oct. 9 on the Government of Canada Recalls and Safety Alerts site, covers the 1.33-litre size with UPC 8 10264 02763 3. The affected best-before codes are 2026 DE 07 and 2026 DE 12.
The gravy was sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the agency said. The timing falls on the Thanksgiving weekend, when many households stock up on gravy for holiday meals.
The CFIA said there have been no reported reactions to the product. It classified the recall as Class 1, the category used when there is a high risk to health. The recall was started by the company, CalChef Foods, LLC. The identification number is RA-82767.
People who are allergic or sensitive to mustard should not eat the gravy, because it may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction, the agency said. Nobody should serve, use, sell or distribute the product. It should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was bought.
The CFIA said it is investigating, which may lead to the recall of other products, and that it is verifying that industry removes the recalled gravy from the market. Questions can be directed to the agency at 1-613-773-2342 or [email protected].
