The UFC will return to Toronto on Jan. 30, 2027, when UFC 336 takes over Scotiabank Arena, the promotion announced Saturday during its Fight Night broadcast from Edmonton.
No bouts have been made official for the card, Sportsnet and MMA Junkie reported. MMA Junkie said the event will be the UFC’s first numbered card of 2027 and its first visit to Toronto in more than three years, since UFC 297 in January 2024.
Sportsnet said UFC 336 will be the promotion’s eighth event in Toronto and its 39th in Canada. The announcement came on a night when a record 12 Canadian fighters competed on the Edmonton card, both outlets reported.
The news drew more than 500 searches in Canada within hours, according to Google Trends.
Online speculation has centred on welterweight champion Islam Makhachev defending his title against top contender Carlos Prates in the main event. That matchup has not been confirmed, and MMA Junkie reported the UFC did not make any fights official during the unveiling. Sportsnet reported that Makhachev, who last fought in August, is on a 17-fight win streak with an 18-1 record in the UFC, while Prates is 7-1 in the promotion and has won his last three bouts by technical knockout.
The date also matters for how Canadians will watch. Numbered UFC events moved from pay-per-view to Paramount+ in the United States this year, but fans in Canada were still being charged pay-per-view prices, MMA Junkie reported. Both MMA Junkie and Cageside Press reported that numbered cards in Canada will move to Paramount+ starting in January, the same month UFC 336 is scheduled.
Cageside Press reported that tickets will go on sale next month. Prices and presale details were not included in the reports.
Toronto’s last UFC card was a title night. At UFC 297 at the same arena in January 2024, Dricus Du Plessis took the middleweight title from Sean Strickland by split decision. Cageside Press said the gate from that event set a Canadian record for the promotion at the time. Strickland has since regained the middleweight belt, and Cageside Press reported he is now in a contract dispute with the UFC.
The Toronto date extends a busy run for the promotion in Canada. The UFC returned to Montreal for UFC 315 in May 2025 after a 10-year absence, and this weekend’s Edmonton card included homegrown fighters such as Cody Chovancek, who was added to the lineup in September. Our earlier coverage of UFC 331 has more on the promotion’s current title picture.
