NORTH VANCOUVER – About 150 youth and their chaperones were rescued after the vessel carrying them ran aground on a sandbar in Burrard Inlet, North Vancouver RCMP said.
Police said the boat was carrying the group on a graduation cruise on Friday night. The RCMP marine unit attended along with the Canadian Coast Guard.
In a statement, police said the rescue efforts brought everyone safely ashore. Police said there were no signs of impairment. The statement did not say what caused the grounding, The Canadian Press reported.
Burrard Inlet is a busy waterway that serves Vancouver’s port and North Shore. In earlier coverage, we reported that dredging of the inlet is under way, a project backed by both B.C. and federal governments and opposed by others.
