Porsche is recalling certain 2024 sports cars in Canada with optional central locking wheels because the wheel locks may not have been manufactured properly, Transport Canada said.
The recall, number 2026502, was posted on Oct. 16 and updated on Oct. 20. It covers 2024 Porsche Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder, 911 GT3, 911 Carrera and 911 Turbo models, but only vehicles fitted with the optional centre-lock wheels. It expands an earlier Transport Canada recall, 2024-646. The notice does not give vehicle identification numbers or the number of vehicles affected.
Transport Canada said the wheel locks could break and allow a wheel to separate from the vehicle. “A wheel separation could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash,” the notice said, adding that a separated wheel is also a hazard to others. No injuries were reported in the notice.
Owners are being told not to drive affected vehicles until the repair is done. Porsche will notify owners by mail. They should contact a dealer to arrange for the car to be towed to the dealership, where the centre wheel locks will be inspected and replaced if necessary.
