Drivers heading north on Columbus Drive in St. John’s toward the Village Mall face a lane reduction between Bay Bulls Road and Topsail Road until about Nov. 13 while crews replace guide rails.
The City of St. John’s said the work began Monday, Nov. 2, and is scheduled to last roughly two weeks, subject to change. Signs are in place and flag persons are on site. The city warned drivers to expect delays and said alternate pedestrian routes will be provided.
Separately, contractors may be working on several streets from Nov. 2 to 7 under the city’s annual street rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. The city said the work could include excavation, concrete work, paving, scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation.
Delays are possible on Belvedere Street, Cherrington Street, Cuckholds Cove Road, Gower Street, Gregg Place, Newfoundland Drive, Poplar Avenue and Taaffe’s Lane. Grind and patch operations may leave milled asphalt on Gold Medal Drive, Pearltown Road, Ruby Line, Southlands Boulevard, Teakwood and Waterford Bridge Road, and drivers are asked to take care there.
Pedestrian access will be maintained or alternate routes provided. The city said other local and residential streets may have ongoing construction and that affected homeowners and businesses have been notified separately.
Waterford Bridge Road is also affected by a separate multi-day closure, which we covered earlier.
To report a problem or ask about the work, residents can call Access St. John’s at 311 or 709-754-2489, email [email protected] or submit an inquiry online. The information comes from two City of St. John’s traffic advisories posted Oct. 30.
