There are 41 people in hospital in Alberta as of June 30, with nine of those people admitted to hospital in intensive care. Five people are in hospital in northern Alberta, one of whom is in ICU.
Nearly 7,200 tests were processed by the provincial lab over the last 24 hours. There have now been 449,451 tests administered in the province. 31,448 people from the North Zone have been tested as of the end of day for June 29.
Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, also announced that moving forward, the province would be changing how often it updates the daily COVID-19 case totals.
Dr. Hinshaw says data will not be updated on Canada Day by Alberta Health. As well, numbers will not be updated going forward on Saturday and Sunday.
“We will continue to provide daily breakdowns, reporting on Monday, so it is clear how many cases occured each day,” said Hinshaw. “We will keep Albertans fully informed if urgent news breaks on a weekend, we will alert you.”
Dr. Hinshaw also announced that outbreaks of COVID-19 had been discovered at four bars and restaurants in Edmonton. Those include:
- GRETA Bar
- Earls Tin Palace
- The Pint (Jasper Avenue)
- Local (Jasper Avenue)
“We are encouraging anyone who attending anyone of those locations over the last two weeks to get tested.”
